Marianna Karvouni, a structural design engineer in Fluor’s Farnborough, UK office, has been recognized as the European Construction Institute’s (ECI) Young Professional of the Year award winner. Karvouni is currently working on one of the world’s largest oil and gas projects.

“This award is particularly pleasing as Marianna is an exceptional young engineer and the award is a timely way to mark today’s International Women in Engineering Day,” said Ashley Rees, managing director and vice president of Fluor in the UK. “Since joining Fluor’s graduate training program, Marianna has been a passionate ambassador and role model participating in a range of outreach activities for young girls and women to encourage them into an engineering career.”

“Marianna has continually demonstrated her commitment to quality, service excellence and a willingness to take on increasingly challenging technical roles,” said Michael Riley, Fluor’s civil, structural and architectural department manager. “Her performance has been recognized by our clients and by Fluor, which has provided her opportunities to accelerate her development as an engineer and future leader in Fluor.”

Since joining Fluor in 2011, Marianna has worked on a wide range of projects from front-end engineering design through to commissioning. She has worked on a mining project in Guinea, the largest integrated iron ore mine and infrastructure project developed in Africa; a chemicals facility in Germany, and is now working on a world-scale oil and gas project in Kazakhstan.
