IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that it was awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Showa Denko Carbon, Inc., to expand its graphite products manufacturing facility in Ridgeville, South Carolina. Located in Dorchester County, the Showa Denko plant produces graphite material for the steel and automotive supplier industries. Fluor booked the undisclosed contract value in the first quarter of 2011.

“Building on our significant engineering and construction expertise, the Showa Denko Carbon production facility is an excellent opportunity for Fluor to bring our many skillsets to bear on this plant expansion,” said Dwayne Wilson, group president of Fluor’s Industrial business line. “We look forward to leveraging our experience delivering quality services to other manufacturing and industrial firms and are pleased to continue our long legacy of executing successful, high profile projects in South Carolina.”

For the expansion project, Fluor will perform EPC services which will be led by Fluor’s Greenville, S.C., office. The engineering and procurement scope of the project is currently underway, and Fluor will self-perform significant portions of the construction scope of the project.

Showa Denko has operated the graphite manufacturing plant in Ridgeville, S.C., since 1988. The plant produces premium graphite electrodes for electric arc furnace steel production, and the expansion will allow the company to meet the increasing demand for its products.
