COOEC-Fluor Welder Wang Jiaxin Recognized as Top Technical Expert in Zhuhai City and Guangdong Province, China
Wang Jiaxin, a welder at the COOEC-Fluor fabrication yard on the South China Sea, was recently named the Technical Expert of Zhuhai City and Guangdong Province after winning first place in the Senior Welder Vocational Skills Contest for both the Zhuhai Municipal and Guangdong Provincial Vocational Skills Competitions.
“Jiaxin exemplifies the spirit of the craftsman in his work at COOEC-Fluor,” said Chris Vertanness, vice president of Fluor and director of operations at the COOEC-Fluor fabrication yard. “He is continuously honing his skills and sharing his technical expertise with colleagues. It is the technical expertise, leadership and skills of craft professionals like him that make COOEC-Fluor an industry leader in fabrication and module assembly.”
Wang joined COOEC-Fluor as an apprentice in 2015 with little hands-on experience. Learning from master workers, he continued to refine his techniques and participate in competitions to develop his skills. He is now one of COOEC-Fluor’s premier technical experts with six unique specialty welding qualifications.
Wang has contributed greatly to successful welding operations on several of COOEC-Fluor’s major projects including the Wen Chang 9-2/9-3/10-3 Gas Field Development Project, the Dongfang 13-2 Gas Fields Development Project and the KIPIC Al-Zour Oil Refinery Project. On two of his most recent projects, he delivered a 100 percent weld pass rate. Those two projects accounted for 118 welds with a total welding length of 46,044 meters – equivalent to the height of approximately 55 Burj Khalifa towers, which is the tallest building in the world.
In a joint venture with COOEC, Fluor owns, operates and manages the COOEC-Fluor fabrication yard. At more than 2 million square meters, it is one of the world’s largest fabrication yards and designed specifically for fabrication. In addition to module assembly, the yard fabricates more than 7,000 tons of steel and more than 175,000 weld diameter inches of pipe per month.
