    The Sasol Ethane Cracker and Derivatives Project recently met a significant milestone, completing its first major heavy haul transport.

    Fluor, in a joint venture with Technip, is serving as the primary engineering, procurement and construction management contractor on Sasol’s $8.9 billion project, which encompasses a 1,500-kta ethane cracker, six derivatives units as well as utilities and offsites.

    Nearly 600 Fluor Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) field professionals completed 19,712 courses as part of a company initiative that helped reduce Fluor’s Total Case Incident Rate (TCIR) from 0.32 in 2014 to 0.24 in 2015. This represents a 25 percent reduction in the injury rate and translates to 160 fewer people being injured on the job.

    Fluor Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Technician Jeff Bergstrom heard a call for assistance in the hallway at the IBM Yorktown site on July 28. He grabbed his equipment, rushed out of his office and found a contractor on the floor.

    Bergstrom, along with Gonzer employee Thomas Dixon and IBM employee David Raines, reacted professionally, swiftly and in a calm manner to put their American Red Cross training to use to help save the man’s life.

    Fluor announced today that the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc. (HMSDC) has recognized Fluor with its highest honor for corporations, the 2015 Corporate Commitment Award, for the second consecutive year.
