Tuesday, October 22, 1996 08:08 AM

Fluor Daniel has been selected by Newmont Gold Company of Denver and Sumitomo Corporation of Tokyo to provide engineering, procurement, construction and project management services for the Batu Hijau project in Indonesia. The project's cost is estimated at $1.6 billion. Fluor Daniel's contract value is more than $1 billion.

The project will bring together the global resources of Fluor Daniel, with project management carried out in Denver, Colorado, and engineering support from its Jakarta office. Fluor Daniel will continue to work closely with national and regional governments to ensure maximum local and regional participation in the project.

Detailed engineering has begun, with production scheduled for 1999. Construction permitting with the Indonesian government is in process, and execution is contingent upon approvals. The project will take approximately three years to construct and, at its peak, will employ 5,000 people.

Fluor Daniel, the principal subsidiary of Fluor Corporation, provides a broader range of technical services to more clients in more industries and geographic locations than any global competitor. Fluor Daniel has maintained a strong presence in Indonesia for more than 25 years and has completed over 40 major projects throughout the country. Fluor Corporation is one of the world's largest international engineering, construction, maintenance and diversified services companies, with an important investment in low-sulfur coal.
