Philip J. Carroll, CEO of Fluor Corp., Liam E. McGee, President of Bank of America and Henry Samueli, Co-Founder of Broadcom, Join the Board of Directors of the Orange County Performing Arts Center

Three new members have been elected to the Board of Directors of the Orange County Performing Arts Center. They are Philip J. Carroll, Liam E. McGee and Henry Samueli, Ph.D.

"We are very pleased to have three such exceptional individuals joining the Board of Directors," said Center Chairman Mark Chapin Johnson. "With their tremendous accomplishments, both as business leaders and as arts patrons, they will provide invaluable leadership during this momentous period in the Center's history. Their insights and experience will be invaluable to us as we move forward in our expansion efforts."

Philip J. Carroll is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fluor Corporation [NYSE:FLR - news]. He joined Fluor in July 1998 after spending 37 years with Shell Oil Company, most recently as President and Chief Executive Officer. Carroll received his bachelor's degree in Physics from Tulane University in Louisiana. He began working for Shell in 1961 as a petroleum engineer and has worked in virtually every major division of the company. He worked briefly for the U.S. Department of Commerce as the Director of the Energy Conservation Division and Executive Director of the National Industrial Energy Conservation Council before returning to Shell Oil in 1974.

Carroll is a member of the board of Boise Cascade Corporation [NYSE:BCC - news]. He is a Director of the national Action Council for Minorities in Engineering and the Texas Medical Center, and he is an Honorary Life Member of the Board of the American Petroleum Institute. He is a member of the Business Roundtable and the California Business Roundtable, as well as serving on the Boards of Trustees of the national Urban League, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Tulane University and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. He and his wife, Charlene, who make their home in Newport Beach, have three children and two grandchildren.

Liam E. McGee was named President of Bank of America Southern California in June 1998. His position entrusts him with responsibility for all of the company's commercial and consumer banking interests in Los Angeles, Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Bernadino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Before assuming his current duties, he was a Group Executive Vice President in charge of Bank of America's National Customer Support Services and he headed Bank of America's California Retail Bank from 1990 to 1996.

McGee is a member of the Boards of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and the State Bar of California. He is also a member of the National Board of Junior Achievement, immediate past Chairman of Junior Achievement of Southern California and a member of the board of the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute. A native of Ireland, McGee received a degree from the University of San Diego and an MBA at Pepperdine University. He went on to earn a law degree from Loyola Law School. He and his wife, Lori, live in Pasadena with their two children.

Dr. Henry Samueli is Co-Founder and Chief Engineer of the Irvine-based company Broadcom, a leading supplier of cable modems and digital television products. Samueli has served as the company's Co-Chairman, Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technical Officer since its inception in 1991. Samueli is a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he supervises advanced research programs in broadband communications circuits. He has published 1000 papers on the subject.

Samueli received his bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees in Electrical Engineering from UCLA. He and his wife, Susan, are supporters of the Orangewood Children's Home. They live in San Juan Capistrano. Samueli has three teenaged daughters.

The new appointments were approved by a unanimous vote of the Center's Board of Directors.
