Duke/Fluor Daniel (D/FD) has been awarded contracts by Duke Energy North
America (DENA) to perform engineering, procurement and construction
(EPC) services for three natural gas-fired, combined-cycle, merchant
power generation facilities with a combined capacity of 2,420 megawatts.
The three projects are: the 600-megawatt Luna Energy Facility in Luna
County N.M.; the 620-megawatt Grays Harbor Energy Facility in Grays
Harbor County, Wash.; and the 1,200-megawatt Moapa Energy Facility in
Clark County, Nev.
A total of eight General Electric-7FA combustion turbines will be used
in the three projects, which are targeted for commercial operation in
summer 2003. These three power plants will generate enough electricity
to serve two and a half million homes in the western United States. The
combined value of the three projects is more than $1.2 billion. The
value of the D/FD contract was not disclosed.
"This brings our portfolio of active EPC projects to more than 16,000
megawatts of fossil-fueled power generation," said Jeff Faulk, president
and chief executive officer of Duke/Fluor Daniel. "In the past 12
months, we have commissioned and brought into commercial operation more
than 5,600 megawatts of natural gas-fired generation."
"Duke/Fluor Daniel has a solid track record of performance in bringing
new generation on line in a timely fashion for Duke Energy North
America," said Jim Donnell, president and chief executive officer of
DENA. "D/FD's capabilities in mobilizing labor, in procurement and
construction give us an extra measure of confidence that these
facilities will be providing competitively priced power to the western
United States when demand peaks in the summer."
