Fluor Reaches 10 Million Safe Work Hours at Luminant’s Oak Grove Project

Wednesday, November 11, 2009 08:56 AM

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that Luminant’s Oak Grove Power Plant project in Franklin, Texas, for which the firm is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor, recently achieved a significant safety milestone of 10 million safe work hours.

“The health and safety of our employees is one of Fluor’s core values. We strive to deliver quality and schedule proficiency while accentuating focus on health, safety and environmental excellence in all phases of project execution,” said Dave Dunning, Fluor’s Power Group president. “For the Oak Grove project, this exceptional safety performance began with initial project construction in July 2006 and has fostered a new standard of HSE expectations.”

“This accomplishment of working 10 million safe work hours in a wide array of challenging construction environments while maintaining an aggressive schedule is truly a reflection of extraordinary teamwork between our project team and Luminant,” said Jim Mackey, Fluor’s vice president for the Power Group’s solid fuel business line.

At the height of the project, site-based personnel employed by Fluor peaked at nearly 2,400 workers. When complete, the Oak Grove Power Plant will consist of two lignite-fueled power generation units that deliver 1,600 megawatts of power, enough to serve nearly 1 million Texas homes. Oak Grove’s emissions rates will be lower than any existing lignite plant in the state and at least 75 percent lower than the average for coal plants.
