Fluor to Serve as Cohort Champion for Carbon to Value Initiative

Tuesday, February 08, 2022 01:00 PM

Fluor has entered its second year with the Carbon to Value (C2V) Initiative, a collaboration between Urban Future Lab at New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering, Greentown Labs and Fraunhofer USA that is supported by the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA). The multi-year C2V initiative leverages corporate involvement and incubation services to drive the acceleration of carbontech innovations that capture and/or convert CO2 into valuable end products or services.

Fluor has stepped forward as C2V’s cohort champion in 2022 while also continuing its role on the Carbontech Leadership Council. Year two will build on the momentum of year one and expand the opportunity for a broad range of carbontech innovation.

“This new role as Cohort Champion further demonstrates Fluor’s commitment to support carbontech innovators with a shared focus on decarbonization,” said Al Collins, Fluor’s group president for Corporate Development and Sustainability. “Decarbonization efforts reach across Fluor’s clients and industries, and we look forward to leveraging our experience to advance new technologies through our partnership with C2V.”

C2V strategically aligns with Fluor’s efforts to decarbonize, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and drive sustainability. Working with carbontech startups creates an environment to foster accelerated development of new technologies and support innovative business models in a rapidly growing industry as the world seeks to decarbonize.

Fluor’s more than 110 years of project experience, 30-plus years of flue gas carbon capture experience working on 30-plus licensed plants, means the company is uniquely positioned to evaluate how new technologies are brought to market, from creation to licensing. In addition, Fluor has also designed and built more than 400 CO2 removal plants in natural gas and synthesis gas including a wide array of treatment technologies.

Fluor is working with multiple emerging technology providers to deploy technology that helps reduce clients' CO2 footprint. The company is applying this knowledge through an innovation network and its Business Incubation Platform focused on the commercialization of carbontech, recognizing the potential market growth in all of the industries Fluor serves.
