U.S. Department of Energy Extends Savannah River Nuclear Solutions’ M&O Contract through September 2016
Public Company Information:
IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) has been notified that the United States Department of Energy (DOE) exercised its option to extend the current Management & Operating (M&O) contract at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, S.C., for an additional 38 months. The extension will cover the time period between August 1, 2013 and September 2016. The M&O contract is currently being executed by Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), LLC, a Fluor-led partnership consisting of Fluor, Newport News Nuclear and Honeywell.
SRNS was originally awarded the Savannah River M&O contract in January 2008 after an open and competitive bid process. By exercising the option to extend the term of the contract, DOE and SRNS will continue uninterrupted management and operation activities as outline in the contract.
“As the lead partner of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Fluor is extremely proud that the DOE recognized the value that our company and our partners have been able to bring to the project,” said Bruce Stanski, president of Fluor’s Government Group. “By leveraging the combined experience from several world class companies, our team brings the best practices and corporate reach back to both the Savannah River Site and the Savannah River National Lab helping them accomplish their vital missions.”
“We are pleased with the recent announcement by DOE to extend our contract until September 2016. This announcement is a testimony to the focus that the SRNS team has put on safety and security, and quality work performance,” said Dwayne Wilson, president and CEO of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions. “This extension validates the great work that our employees have accomplished and the confidence that DOE has in our ability to get the job done. I'm very proud of our employees and their on-going commitment to meet DOE's expectations and goals for the Savannah River Site.”
Fluor has a long and successful history of performing challenging projects within the DOE Complex. In addition to its current role as the managing partner on the M&O contract at Savannah River, Fluor serves as the prime contractor for the decontamination and decommissioning of the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon, Ohio. Fluor has worked at the Hanford Site in Washington State since 1996, including the role of the Site’s prime contractor for 12 years. From 1992 to 2006, Fluor executed nuclear cleanup work at the DOE’s Fernald Site near Cincinnati, Ohio, and completed the project ahead of schedule and under budget.
